WA mum spared jail over baby’s broken leg

A Perth mother-of-three who failed to seek adequate treatment for her baby’s broken leg has been spared a prison sentence.

Biarabindi Jingala Yanjidi Pickett, 24, pleaded guilty in the West Australian District Court to being reckless with a child in her care, which may have resulted in the child suffering.

The infant was aged between seven and 10 months during the period of offending between January and April 2017.

Pickett claimed she did not know her child was hurt, but in hindsight accepted the baby was in «great pain» and distressed.

On Friday, the single mother was handed a 12-month intensive supervision order, which will include programs to address her needs.
